Server updates and a most inconvenient crash
While away from home I decided to run a routine system update on all of my
servers. While most of them completed successfully, the one I keep at home
decided to break systemd-logind
on reboot, this meant that logging in was
woefully slow, minutes to open a shell or run a sudo command.
The kicker was that, this same service, aside from being broken, refuses to
die when sent a SIGKILL
meaning the server won’t reboot, staying frozen
awaiting for a process to die that will never do.
As a result, until I get back home, some of my services have been taken offline returning gateway timeout or other error.
Also, merry Christmas for all of you.
